Unsigned, Edo/Meiji Period (19th Century)
With gold kinji lacquer ground; decoration in gold and silver hiramaki-e and takamaki-e embellished with gold and silver foil mosaic; elephant and musicians in relief of shibuichi with gilding and copper details; compartments and risers gold nashiji; shoulders and rims gold lacquer
On one side a group of Chinese musicians playing on the back of a caparisoned elephant; on the reverse a Chinese landscape by the sea with palace buildings
