Lot Essay

The unrecorded carver of this very fine netsuke was presumably a pupil of Kaigyokusai Masatsugu (see lot 75). For a similar example signed Kaigyokusai koku [carved by Kaigyokusai], see Arakawa Hirokazu, The Go Collection of Netsuke (Tokyo, 1983), pl. 89.
