Lot Essay

The sennin depicted in this netsuke may be intended to represent Tobosaku (in Chinese, Dongfangshuo) who stole peaches from the Garden of Immortality, a paradise in the Kunlun region of Central Asia watched over by Seiobo (Xiwangmu) the Royal Mother of the West.
