The double circle motif symbolizes permanence and longevity. It is a symbol that appears to be often found on bamboo-inspired furniture, characterized by round members and wrap-around stretchers.

The form of this table is unusual in that it does not appear to refer to the bamboo furniture repertoire and features plain humpback stretchers rather than leg-encircling humpback stretchers. For an example of a table with double circle braces but leg-encircling humpback stretchers, refer to G. Kates, Chinese Household Furniture, New York, 1962, no. 41.
