Intricately carved in upper and lower sections as a duck and three ducklings swimming amidst a tangle of long-leafed grasses, the ducks' bodies forming four compartments, the intertwined stems and leaves forming the openwork base, the well-polished stone with pale yellowish-brown mottling

Compare the jade box, also carved as a group of ducks amidst grasses and dated to the Qing dynasty, included in the Min Chiu Society Thirtieth Anniversary Exhibition, 30 November 1990 - 10 February 1991, Hong Kong Museum of Art, no. 210; and another in the shape of eight geese dated 1750-1820 illustrated in Chinese Art and Design, Art Objects in Ritual and Daily Life, Woodstock, New York 1991, pp. 196-197, no. 91.
