Lot Essay

This vessel appears to be based on earlier bronze prototypes, such as the bronze jar and cover (guan fou) from tomb no. l, Xiasi, Xichuan, Henan, of Eastern Zhou date, illustrated in New Perspectives on Chu Culture during the Eastern Zhou Period, Smithsonian Institution, 1991, p. 114, fig. 12.
The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd. thermoluminescence test no. C199w65 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
