Lot Essay

Compare the similar jar in the Honolulu Academy of Arts illustrated by M. Medley, T'ang Pottery and Porcelain, London, 1981, p. 67, pl. 59, where the author notes that by the end of the 6th century the molding of the leaf tips in high relief had been abandoned for an incised line, as seen on the present jar. A jar of this earlier type is illustrated op. cit., p. 66, pl. 58.
