The unusual configuration of the mark appears to be imitating the design of a bronze coin or 'cash'.
A group of four stands of this type, variously decorated and one of hexagonal form, was included in a study display at the British Museum, 17 October - 30 November 1994 and is illustrated by J. H. Hall in the article, 'A Research Display of 16th Century Chinese Ceramics from the Oriental Ceramic Society and the British Museum', T.O.C.S., vol. 58, 1993-1994, p. 34, fig. 7-10.
