Decorated with bands of various foliate motifs, including composite scroll on the base and foliate sprays on the inner walls of the larger drip pan, with bands of waves and classic scroll on the outer rims

Lot Essay

A candlestick of this design bearing a Qianlong inscription dated to the ninth year of Qianlong corresponding to 1744 is illustrated in the catalogue of the Special Exhibition of K'ang-hsi, Yung-cheng and Ch'ien-lung Porcelain Ware from the Ch'ing Dynasty in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1986, p. 168, no. 141. Another, minus the inscription, included in the exhibition, Blue-Decorated Porcelain of the Ming Dynasty, Philadelphia Museum of Art, 19 October - 4 December 1949, p. 159, no. 310 and again in the O.C.S. Exhibition of Ming Blue-and-White, London, 1954, no. 310, was later sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 30 October 1995, lot 781.
