Lot Essay

Dishes from this service with similar borders and related figures are more commonly found with apocryphal Chenghua marks and of larger size. Compare two related dishes bearing Kangxi marks, one from the Barbara Hutton Collection, illustrated by Marchant, 'Some Interesting Pieces of Marked Ch'ing Porcelain', Hong Kong O.C.S. Bulletin, no. 3, 1977-78, pl. 41, fig. 1; the other in the Percival David Foundation, illustrated by Beurdeley, Qing Porcelain, London, 1987, p. 53, no. 58.

Compare, also, the example sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 28 April 1996, lot 752.
