Lot Essay

Several versions of these Buddhist altar ornaments exist and vary in the palette and modeling of the base. The closest to the present lot appear to be a pair with a yellow, rather than a turquoise, ground, which bear Daoguang marks, from the collection of Simon Kwan, included in the exhibition, Joined Colors, Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Washington, D.C., 1993, p. 121, no. 49.
