Finely and sensitively carved with a sinuous body and her head turned to the side and lowered in a graceful stance, with large almond-shaped eyes beneath raised arched brows and bow-shaped mouth, wearing multi-stranded necklaces with beaded pendants, her hair neatly pulled back in wavy strands and tied back in a bun
13 in. (34.2 cm.) high

Lot Essay

The posture and adornment is suggestive of a celestial nymph, her voluptuous forms sensitively carved with eloquent charm. Compare a small torso of an Apsara, in the Alsdorf Collection, in P. Pal, A Collecting Odyssey, 1997, cat. nos. 279 and 280.
