A GEORGE II SCARLET AND GILT-JAPANNED LONGCASE CLOCK

The silvered chapter ring enclosing a matt dial with maker's plaque inscribed Step. Rimbault LONDON. and with strike/silent dial above within scrolling foliate dolphin and Venus mask spandrels, the arched glazed door flanked by pilasters beneath a scrolling sounding board and surmounted by a stepped caddy lid with ball and spire finials, the case with arched door above a plinth and rectangular skirting, the whole decorated with Chinese figures, pavilions, exotic birds and flowering plants in gilt on a scarlet ground, the two-train movement with anchor escapement striking the hour on a bell, decoration restored
