The rounded rectangular top over a frieze with two short drawers reversing to sham drawer fronts, above a semi-circular stand on a quadripartite plinth and splayed legs with brass paw caps and casters, with allover stylized foliate brass inlay

Lot Essay

Merle Oberon was the glamorous Calcutta-born film star who won the Academy Award nomination for her role in The Dark Angel (1935) and played opposite Laurence Olivier in Wuthering Heights in 1938. She was a known collector of English and French 18th and 19th century antiques and once owned 'The Duke of Windsor Cabinet' that brought a record-breaking price when sold in these Rooms on 17 October 1981, lot 161 ($946,000) and subsequently, 12 October 1996, lot 277.
