A NORWEGIAN SILVER PEG TANKARD
Maker's mark of Johan Govert Lund, Stavanger, 1758-1783
Cylindrical, on three ball and claw feet, the body flat-chased with panels of foliage and strapwork on a matted ground, the front engraved with a cartouche of intertwined foliage surrounding a prick-engraved inscription TRSB and 1761, the tubular scroll handle applied with mask at terminal and hinge, the hinged cover with similar flat-chasing and set with a gilt Austrian thaler of Emperor Ferdinand II (reigned 1619-1637), the thumbpiece formed as a lion holding a sphere, marked three times under base with maker's mark; also with engraved scratchweight 86 Lod and pricked 85 Lod
