A GEORGE II SILVER EPERGNE
Maker's mark of Benjamin Gignac, London, 1754
On four shell feet, the scroll legs with ribbon, fruit and floral apron between, the inverted pyriform body chased with floral, scroll and grapevine bands, the pierced neck supporting a removable circular gilt dish, the rim chased with fluting and panels of foliage and fishscale, the four double-scroll branches with similar gilt dishes, each with three scroll feet, the dishes gilt, the center of each engraved with a coat-of-arms within a foliate cartouche, the underside of body with small inscription 1873 - Jan.y 19 - 1898, marked under base of stand and on dishes; also with four Victorian silver finials to substitute for branches, creating a centerpiece bowl, three with maker's mark of James Garrard, London, one unmarked
