Lot Essay

This model, one of the earlier known in animal-form tureens, was found in the Eumorfopoulos Collection, illustrated by R.L. Hobson, Catalogue, vol. V, pl. XXXIV, the Mottahedeh Collection, illustrated by Howard and Ayers, op. cit., vol. II, no. 602, the collection of H.R.H., the Duke of Gloucester, sold Christie's, London, 20 May 1954, lot 14, and the J. Ivan Yates Collection, sold Christie's, London, 1 July 1978, lot 44.
