Stamped by the Wooten Desk Company, Indianapolis, Indiana, circa 1874
The scroll-carved crest with turned finial flanked by similar ornament above a shaped and veneered gallery over a molded shelf above an outset rectangular case with projecting quarter-round upper section fitted with two conforming and panelled doors embellished with applied ornament and each with a molded metal plaque, the first with flip door and inscribed LETTERS and fitted on the reverse with various shelves and the second inscribed MANUFACTURED BY THE WOOTEN DESK CO. INDIANAPOLIS IND. PAT. OCT.6 1874 and fitted on the reverse with forty small cardboard removable drawers, both opening to an elaborately compartmented interior comprised of variously sized cubby holes and drawers with fall-front and leather-lined writing surface, all over a shaped skirt, on paired downscrolling legs fitted with castors
