A PAIR OF FINE GEORGE III SILVER-GILT BUTTER TUBS AND COVERS ON STANDS
Maker's mark of Digby Scott and Benjamin Smith II, London, 1806
Each oval, the body with two parallel bands of Greek key and lozenges against a matted ground, with glass liner, with gadrooned borders and two serpent-form ring handles, the slightly domed cover with an acanthus calyx surmounted by a bud finial, the conforming stand on four scroll and foliate feet, with dense band of acanthus, the cover engraved on one side with an Earl's armorials, one side of stand engraved with a crest and motto under an Earl's coronet, marked under bases, covers, one finial and on stands, also with scratchweight 73=6 under stands
