G. Sommer is recorded as having worked in Naples in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in both sand and lost wax bronze castings of Antique works of art.
This model is identical in form but with variations in the Pan's anatomy and the plinth, to the prototype discovered 15th June, 1755 in Pompeii. See A. Mulas, Eros in Antiquity, 1978 p.79.
