Stamped Morisot, Late 19th Century
Each in the form of a sphinx with raised wings, and with a large pinecone to one end, on a rounded rectangular base hung with with grapevine swags, musical trophies, and with crossed ribbon-tied thyrses, and at each end with a ribbon-tied grape vine swag, incised Morisot and also stamped MT

Lot Essay

Auguste Morisot (1857-1951) was active as a decorator at the htel of Mme de Neyron de Champollon in Lyon and at her manor Saint-Point near Pontarlier, for which he designed lighting fixtures, stained-glass windows, ironwork, wood-panelling, and furniture. He is also recorded as participating in the Exposition Universelle of 1878.
