Mid 18th century, the stand reconstructed and incorporating mid 18th century elements
The rectangular top with serpentine front and canted corners, above two conforming drawers and a scrolled apron centered with acanthus, the top drawerfronts and sides with panelled walnut veneer within a crossbanded border, flanked by associated bracket-top cabriole legs, each headed with a flower, the handles associated, inscribed XXXIII

Although the base is largely reconstructed, the distinctive form of this commode, with two richly figured breakfront drawers on a plainer base with short cabriole legs, is characteristic of commodes from the region of Bologna. Similar commodes are illustrated in G. Manni, Mobili Antichi in Emilia Romagna, Modena, 1993, p. 136, figs. 281-2.
