Probably French, 19th Century, after the models by Michel Anguier (1612-1686)
Each standing in a contraposto pose holding an attribute, Bacchus a cup and grapes, Amphritrite a lobster, on an integrally cast base, with an associated molded and spreading black marble base
19in. (50cm.) high overall, 8in. (21cm.) wide, 7in. (18.5cm.) deep., the figures each 14in. (37cm.) high (2)

Lot Essay

A related Amphitrite figure, acquired by Charles de Bestegui for the Chateau de Groussay, was sold at the Sotheby's and Poulain Le Fur house sale at the Chteau de Groussay, 2-6 June 1999, lot 192.

Both bronzes are reproductions after a well known series of gilt bronze gods and goddesses commissioned by the jeweller de Montarsi from Michel Anguier in 1652.
