Lot Essay

The fine scale, jewel-like carving of this center table relates it the work of the celebrated Turinese cabinet-maker Giuseppe Maria Bonzanigo, who was appointed sculptor to the royal court of Turin in 1787 by Vittorio Amedeo III. A related table with inset trompe l'oeil panel, attributed to Bonzanigo, is illustrated in G. Morazzoni, Il Mobile Neoclassico Italiano, Milan, 1955, fig. CXVII.
