Lot Essay

The distinctive carving of these impressive consoles, with grotesque masks flanking a central panel carved with a swan issuing foliate tendrils, is typical of the output of Neapolitan workshops of the 1780's.Other related consoles are illustrated in G. Morazzoni, Il Mobile Neoclassico Italiano, Milan, 1955, figs. CXXV-CCXXXI.
