Taylor--Vintage 1970
Tasting note: First tasted in 1972, many notes, 13 since the early 1980s. Originally opaque, virtually black-purple, its remained plum-coloured for nearly 20 years and - with the exception of an unusually precocious Russell and Mc Iver bottling in 1983 - is still a vigorous ruby. Recent notes, probably different bottlings, slightly variable, particularly on the nose: whiff of mercaptan, rawness and volatility, at best harmonious though subdued. Certainly sweet, full-bodied, rich, good fruit, lovely mid-palate, still powerful, high alcoholic content, good length, tannin and acididty. Impressive. M.B.
