A Nuremberg pewter-mounted tankard
Circa 1730
Painted in schwarzlot with a continuous hunting scene with a gate, trees and shrubs before distant buildings with a tower, a huntsman riding on horseback accompanying his hounds, one hound capturing a hare, other hounds attacking a running stag nearby, the mounts at the footrim and the hinged cover edged with gadroons, the cover with ball finial and central medallion with Christ crucified before Jerusalem and inscribed IESV CREVTZES TODTHILFFTAVS ALLER NOTH (restored crack running down vertically from rim through stag)
10 in. (27.3 cm.) high overall
