General Blcher was commander of the Prussian and Saxon armies, who were defeated by Napoleon at Ligny on 16 June 1815. Wellington, realising that Napoleon had outflanked him suggested to Blcher that he marshall his remaining troops and join the Anglo Dutch army for a united stand against the French near the village of Mont-Saint-Jean, just south of the town of Waterloo.
