Lot Essay

In 1937 Seago travelled to Monte Carlo where he worked with his friend John Masefield on A Tribute to Ballet, an album of poems and paintings which was published in 1938 to wide acclaim. The present work depicts a performance of Giselle with Tamra Toumanova and Serge Lifar of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. The set was designed by Alexander Benois.
