Lot Essay

The present lanscape composition is based on the rugged scenery around Ronda, where Bomberg lived with his wife Lilian between February 1954 and May 1957 when he became seriously ill. It was during this period, while they were living at Villa Paz, Palacio de Mondragon that they attempted (unsuccessfully) to establish a School of Painting and English.
