A LOUIS XVI ENAMELLED GOLD SEALING-WAX CASE
by Louis Ouizille (fl. 1768-1790), marked, Paris 1776/1777, with the charge mark of Jean-Baptiste Fouache 1775-1781
Slightly tapering tui--cire of flattened oval section, both sides of cover and base with panels enamelled in translucent blue on an engine-turned peaked ground, within opaque white enamelled dotted borders, divided by sabl gold bands stamped with foliage, flowers, ovolos and berries enamelled in translucent green and red and in opaque turquoise blue and white, the cover topped by a slightly domed oval rosette enamelled in translucent green and blue on a matted ground, surrounded by a translucent blue guilloch enamel band, the outside of the detachable matrix later engraved with a monogram, the reverse of the matrix with remnants of an accol coat-of-arms
