TWO GOLD NEEDLE CASES
one with the warranty mark for gold, Bouches du Rhne department 1809-1819 and the 'recense' mark for the South-East Division 1819-1838, maker's mark rubbed, the shorter one probably Geneva under French occupation, with the restricted warranty mark for the French departments 1798-1809; both with later French control marks
Both slightly tapering of octagonal section, one with arched blank top, the burnished sides of cover and base stamped with shuttle-shaped reserves depicting flowers and vases, frosted rims stamped with flowerheads and lotus, the other with plain cover and base, the frosted rims set with flowerheads in two-colour gold, both with plain matrices
