Lot Essay

Jean-Georges Rmond, was born in Hanau, Germany, in 1752. He moved to Geneva probably in 1771 and became master in the guild of Maitres-Orfvres in 1783. He founded Georges Rmond & Cie. in 1790 and entered a partnership as Rmond, Mercier, Lamy & Cie. in 1800. Jean-Georges Rmond and his partners are renowned for their singing bird, snuff and musical boxes and form watches of excellent quality, with magnificent enamel decorations often painted by famous artists such as Richter, Adam, Dupont, Lissignol etc. The partners worked for Jaquet-Droz, Frisard and Les Frres Rochat and the products were exported to France, England, Italy and the Orient.
It is thought that Jean-Georges Rmond either retired or died in 1820 when the company's name changed to Mercier, Blondel & Berton.
