Lot Essay

Peter Brown is thought to have been a pupil of Georg Dionisius Ehret (1708-1770) and his style of painting certainly shows the influence of his possible master. He was appointed Painter Botanist to the Prince of Wales and exhibited with the Society of Artists from 1766 to 1783 and at the Royal Academy from 1770 to 1791.
Examples of his work are in the Broughton Collection in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.
