Lot Essay

Compare the very similarly modelled and enamelled carp tureen and cover at the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, illustrated by W. R. Sargent, The Copeland Collection, 1991, no.103. Interestingly, the Copeland example has a two-character numerical inscription on both the base and the underside of the cover.
