Blue interlaced L's enclosing date laetters MM for 1789, gilder's mark for Prvost, one with painter's mark for Fontaine, incised 45 and 17, the other with painter's mark for Hirel de Choisy, incised 27 and 38
Each of typical cylindrical form with scroll handles, painted with a frizes riches border of pink and blue flower sprigs within a gilt foliate rinceau on a carmine ground and within bands of gilt laurel, and gilt-berried green laurel on a carmine ground, punctuated with medallions of faux pearls on an alternate carmine or blue ground edged in gilt and enclosing a single pansy sprig, a band of faux pearls on a blue ground edged in gilt below

Lot Essay

The present glass coolers are from a service comissioned from the Svres factory in 1789 by the Comtesse d'Artois of the same pattern and design as those made in 1784 for both her sister-in-law Marie-Antoinette, queen of France, and as a gift from Louis XVI to Gustave III.

Henri-Martin Prvost, active at Svres as a gilder, 1757-1796.

Jacques Fontaine, active at Vincennes and Svres as a painter of flowers, figures, patterns, cameos and as a gilder, 1752-1800.

Cyprien-Julien Hirel de Choisy, active at Svres as a painter of flowers and patterns, 1770-1812.
