Jean-Franois Garre's matrise is not recorded, but he flourished in the mid-18th Century.

An almost identical commode is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Franais du XVIIIe Sicle, Paris, 1989, p.347, whilst a commode of closely related shape and displaying the same restrained use of mahogany is illustrated on the cover of G. Janneau, Historique de Meuble, Paris, 1976.
