The crossbanded, quarter-veneered kidney-shaped top decorated with a ribbon-tied scrolled flowering branch within a scrolled border, above a herringbone tambour door, enclosing a shelf above a drawer, each side fitted with a secret compartment, the quarter-veneered sides and back decorated with a rounded rectangular panel, on cabriole legs with rocaille sabots, possibly originally with a stretcher, some marquetry of top reveneered

In its overall form, this table is closely related to the oeuvre of Jacques-Laurent Cosson, who became maitre in 1765. A very similar table by the latter, which originally formed part of the collections of Louis-Jean-Marie de Bourbon, duc de Penthivre (1725-1793) at the chteau de Chanteloup, was sold anonymously at Christie's New York, 21 October 1997, lot 158.
