These chaises dossier en gerbe de forme raquette are of identical model to those stamped by Georges Jacob (matre in 1765), illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Franais du XVIIIe Sicle, Paris, 1989, p.425, fig.d). In their form, they are loosely related to the dossier la Montgolfire pattern that developed in celebration of the Montgolfier brothers ballooning triumphs - such as featured on the pair of chairs by Jean-Baptiste Bernard Demay (matre in 1784) illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Franais du XVIIIme Sicle, Paris, 1989, p.248.
