Related Genoese work tables with similar distinctive quarter-cut veneers are illustrated in L. Caimi, L'Ebanisteria Genovese del Settecento, 1996, pp. 135-39. It is likely that some of the frieze mounts are a later embellishment, and it is therefore interesting to note that a Genoese bureau de dame of related character was also probably embellished by the English marchand-mercier Edward Holmes Baldock (1777-1845) (sold anonymously at Christie's London, 9 December 1993, lot 127).
