Each stamped I.GOURDIN, circa 1780
The incurved oval padded back and bowed seat covered with cream and beige striped needlework with floral sprays and green and pink silk braid, flanked by outcurved armrests, on downswept supports, each sheathed at its base with acanthus, the stiles carved with leaves, on tapering stop-fluted legs with toupie feet headed by rectangular paterae, the frames carved with twisted ribbon overall, four chairs stamped I.GOURDIN, two also perhaps but indistinctly, regilt (6)

Jean-Baptiste Gourdin, matre in 1748.

A related but slightly more elaborate set of six white-painted Louis XVI oval-back fauteuils, en suite with a canap, was sold anonymously at Sotheby's Monaco, 23 June 1979, lot 89.
