The authenticity of this work has been kindly confirmed by Mr. Charles Van Deun, the artist's nephew.

During 1945 Delvaux stayed several times at the home of the sculptor Georges Grard in Saint-Idesbald. Delvaux was to execute frescoes on the faade of the house a few years later.
