Lot Essay

"His work includes all kinds of birds and flying men. Furthermore, as birds can fly only because their wings beat in the void, so a work of art must absorb itself in matter. Csar has not tried to substract his sculpture from the truth of scrap metal. He worked like a homeopath. In making his birds of metal rods and bolts, he has endowed them with the power of using immense wings in space" (Catherine Francblin as quoted in op. cit., p. 230).
