Details
Abraham Jansz. van Diepenbeeck (1596-1675)
An angel presenting crowns to a kneeling couple in a church, putti above
black lead, pen and brown ink, grey and brown wash, pencil framing lines
129 x 91 mm.
Provenance
Anon. sale, Sotheby's Mak van Waay, Amsterdam, 21 March 1977, lot 12, when acquired by the present owner.
Sale room notice
Marc Vandenven of the Rubenianum, Antwerp, has kindly confirmed the attribution noting that this is presumably a design for a print in a book of prayers. The organ in the background would seem to indicate that the subject may be the Marriage of Saint Cecilia with Valerianus (L. Reau, Iconographie de l'art chrtien, III, Iconographie des Aints, I, A-F, p. 283).
