Sale room notice
As Dr. Hans-Ulrich Beck has kindly pointed out, the composition of this drawing is closely related to that of the signed picture dated 1646 by Isack Jansz. van Ostade (1621-1649) from the Rothschild Collection, sold 8 July 1999, Christie's, London, lot 223. Barent Gael, who was born in Haarlem and died in Amsterdam, may well have copied Ostade's picture.
