Trees by a house (recto); Trees in a hilly landscape (verso)

The yellow bodycolour delicately applied to the trees on the recto imitates the pure light of sunset or sunrise. The present lot belongs to a group of similar drawings, often double-sided and sometimes on blue paper, which differ from Waterloo's usual landscape studies.
