Lot Essay

Born in Dsseldorf, the artist was a pupil of his father Herman van der Mijn (cf. lot 409 in the present sale), who also taught his other son, Georg van der Mijn (1727-1763). Frans worked in Amsterdam and The Hague. In about 1750 he moved to London, where became a popular portraitist and exhibited at the Free Society.
