On spreading moulded base decorated with scrolling foliage and inscribed P:R:S: IN PERP: VSV: COMMs. CATH:ROM:VRB:S'HEERENB.OBT.ET DED. S:B:C: AA: R. IN. P:AN.MDCC., the baluster knobbed stem, the spreading cup engraved with three medaillons each with religious figures, hanging fruit and foliage between, the cover decorated ensuite to the base, foliate knob finial with engraved cross

Lot Essay

Rabanus Raab de Oude (1654-1740) worked in Kalkar, at the time the province Gelre, it is known he was commissioned by the Counts of van Bergh to produce ecclesiastical silver for the town s' Heerenberg. His son, Rutger Raab settled in Boxmeer possibly on recomendation of Count van Bergh. Just like his father and his son he used the maker's mark RR along with the coat-of-arms of the Counts of van Bergh.
