Lot Essay
This table, with its inset mahogany oval panel to the centre of the top and inset shaped mahogany rectangle to the side flap, relates closely to one supplied to John Parker the younger, later Lord Boringdon, in c. 1775-1777, for the saloon at Saltram, Devon by the cabinet-maker Henry Kettle (d. 1797). The Saltram pembroke table has a label in its drawer which records him as 'Upholder and Undertaker at no. 18 St. Paul's Church Yard' (see C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, Leeds, 1996).
