Crossbanded overall in satinwood and inlaid with boxwood and ebonised lines, the triple arched cornice with obelisk finials, above a roundel-inlaid frieze and three hinged doors with variously-shaped panels, enclosing three modern shelves, above a long mahogany-lined drawer, on square tapering legs, probably originally enclosing a folding bed

Lot Essay

The cabinet with geometric tablets and medallions framed by golden and Etruscan-black ribbons reflects the antique fashion promoted by Thomas Sheraton, whose The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book, l793 also featured the French fashioned tablet with indented arch at top and base as appears on the upper section of this cabinet (pl. 8).
